Q&A With
Luke Holmes
My immediate goal is to qualify for the Junior World Championships in 2025 in Wollongong, Australia. To get there, I’ve been putting extra focus on improving my run leg so I can become a more balanced triathlete. Looking further ahead, I aim to win more international races at the senior level and travel to new race venues around the world collecting not just results, but also friendships and memories along the way.
They’ve supported my travel to key races and given me the confidence to compete against top-level athletes. That backing has been a game changer for my progress.
Winning the Youth Commonwealth Championships and the Europe Triathlon Junior Cup in Tabor are definitely stand-out moments. The Youth Commonwealths was special because it was such a proud moment to represent Jersey and come away with the gold against strong competition from across the Commonwealth. Then, taking the win in Tabor against some of Europe’s best juniors proved to me that I could perform at a high level on the international stage, after a few tough races this was a result I had been chasing for a while.
I love the variety that comes with training and racing in three different disciplines. One day I’m in the pool in the morning, by midday out on the bike exploring new roads, and have laps of the track for dinner. Triathlon has also given me the chance to travel to amazing places I might never have seen otherwise, and along the way I’ve made great friends from all over the world.
Outside of doing sport, I enjoy watching it whether it’s seeing my friends and family race locally or following top professionals on TV. I also enjoy playing golf and going surfing whenever I get the chance. Living in Jersey means I’m never far from the beach, so when I’m not training, I make the most of it by relaxing with friends over an ice cream on a sunny day.

Real stories. Real impact.
“I was raised in a family that has always participated in —and often competed in—triathlons at a high level. I started the sport at a young age and haven't stopped since! I currently train in Jersey, swimming with Jersey Tigers and coached by Lee Merrien and Jodie Swallow.”
