Q&A With
Sam Nisbet
I am 22 years old and have recently graduated from the University of Bath. I got into cycling when I was around 10 years old, but I really committed to the sport during my first year of university. That was when I began racing at regional level, along with the occasional national-level race. Each year I improved, racing more national events, achieving multiple podiums and taking my first national-level victory. This year I have taken it a step further by racing abroad in France, Spain and Italy.
Some of my biggest achievements so far include: 1st – Stage 1, U23 Tour of the North-West (2024) 1st – BUCS Cyclocross Championships (2026) 2nd – Round 1, U23 National Road Series (2025) 2nd U23 – Round 5, National Cyclocross Series (2025) 2nd – Stage 2 and 3rd – Stage 3, Mennock Pass Scottish National Stage Race
My short-term goals are to finish in the top 10 at the National Hill Climb Championships in October, as well as achieve a top-10 finish in a National Road Series race. My long-term goals are to win an individual gold medal at the Island Games, compete in the road race and time trial at the 2030 Commonwealth Games, and win a National Road Series race.
Cycling is a great way to explore the world, and I love visiting different places across the UK and abroad. It is also a very social sport, and I enjoy riding with friends and stopping at cafés. I also love racing and enjoy thinking tactically to try and win races.
The support from the LouLou Race Foundation has already helped me immensely this year with racing abroad. I have already competed in a three-day stage race in France, as well as five-day stage races in the Pyrenees and Spain. Experiencing this new level of cycling pushes you much further than the UK scene and exposes you to the very best of the sport. Racing against stronger competition is helping me continue to improve and move closer to achieving my goals.
