Tom Atkinson Brings Home Jersey’s First Gold of the Games

We’re buzzing with pride over Tom Atkinson, our Lou Lou athlete, who opened the 2025 Island Games in Orkney with something extraordinary. In July 2025, Tom powered through the Men’s Individual Triathlon, crossing the finish line at 1:52:47 (a full seven minutes ahead of the next competitor) to deliver Jersey’s first gold of the Games. That triumph didn’t just spark celebration, it set the tone for the entire team.
A True Team Moment

Tom’s win wasn’t just a solo achievement, it was the spark that lit up the whole Jersey squad. With 53 athletes racing, he led from the swim all the way through to the final step of the run, earning not just a gold medal, but a moment of true island pride. His performance helped Jersey regain the team gold they’d held two years earlier in Guernsey.

From Early Promise to Podium Power

Tom’s journey to Orkney began long before the Games. His passion for triathlon traces back to those first steps into the local triathlon club as a youngster, and his path has been shaped by endless training, quiet determination, and community support. While this is his first Island Games gold, his earlier shows, like a strong fourth place in 2023, hinted at what was possible.

Why We’re Cheering

At LouLou Race Foundation, we believe in young athletes who bring their whole heart to the starting line and Tom exemplified that. His victory wasn’t just about a win; it was about believing in the process, honoring hard work, and making those around you believe, too.

Tom’s story reminds us that root and reach matter: homegrown talent with the courage to go far. When local athletes shine like this, it reminds all of us of what’s possible, especially when support, opportunity, and passion collide.

Be Part of More Journeys Like Tom’s

Tom’s gold is a reminder: it takes more than grit to make historic moments, it takes community. You can help create more of those moments by donating, sponsoring, or offering know-how beyond funding, whether that’s coaching, connections, or encouragement.

Together, we can keep opening doors for more young island athletes to rise to their own historic days.
